Based on What? So what? Now what? Reflection model

What?
After last week's presentation, I moved on to the conceptualization stage of my project. I brainstormed ideas based on my HMW (How Might We) statement and ultimately identified the project direction that interested me the most. I also created a mood board for it. I decided to incorporate MR (Mixed Reality) technology into the project. However, this decision brought new challenges, as I had no prior experience with MR technology and felt anxious about where to start. Although Mairi arranged for a guest with relevant knowledge to speak with us on Thursday, I was unable to ask meaningful questions during the conversation, which left me feeling frustrated.
So What?
I began to reflect on why I couldn’t ask more in-depth questions when speaking with the expert. I realized that my unfamiliarity with MR technology and a potential fear of the unknown prevented me from delving deeper into the topic. As a result, my research on MR technology remained superficial. Additionally, I had only brainstormed ideas for the project without developing a concrete implementation plan, which left me confused about how to apply MR technology. My lack of preparation before the conversation with the expert meant that I didn’t gain the valuable insights I was hoping for. However, I did make some progress, such as connecting with a PhD student from the University of Auckland’s Empathic Computing Lab who specializes in MR, and I signed up for volunteer activities related to MR technology.
Now What?
I realize that I need to quickly define a clear and specific project plan. Next Tuesday and Thursday are my last opportunities to meet with my supervisor before the holiday, so I must finalize my topic and receive feedback. This experience taught me an important lesson: it is crucial to thoroughly prepare questions before engaging with professionals to ensure that the information obtained is valuable. Next week, I will participate in MR technology testing, hoping to gain insights and new ideas to help advance my project. I will also prepare my questions in advance to have more targeted communication with the PhD student.
