At this point in my project, I've been struggling with having too many ideas, which has stalled my progress. This challenge led me to revisit my original HMW statement, which initially focused on creating nostalgic experiences for people in foreign environments. However, I realized that replicating smells, a key aspect of nostalgia, wasn’t feasible with the available tools. This prompted me to refine my approach, narrowing my focus to something more achievable.
I used secondary research, Top5 insights, and insight statements to revise my HMW statement. These tools helped me clarify my direction and focus on a solution that fits within my project's constraints. This shift from a broad and impractical idea to a more focused and actionable plan was crucial, as it provided a clearer path forward and reduced the complexity that had been hindering my progress.
Action
To tackle the problem, I revisited my previous HMW statement, identifying the core issues that were causing confusion. This review allowed me to clarify my approach and align it better with the project's goals.
I then conducted secondary research to explore ways to enhance the connection between people and places using audiovisual stimulation. This shift in focus opened new possibilities for utilizing AR technology to address loneliness in foreign environments.
The Top5 exercise helped me prioritize the most important aspects of my project, allowing me to focus more effectively. Additionally, the Insight Statement allowed me to synthesize the information I gathered during my research. These methods collectively guided me in creating a new HMW statement and conceptualizing specific ideas, which helped me begin designing the app flow—an essential part of my project.
Tool1: Brainstorm 🧠

Result
Reflecting on this week's actions, I successfully redefined my project direction, overcoming the constraints of my previous HMW statement. By refining my focus, I have developed a clearer path forward, reducing my anxiety and increasing my confidence in the project. While I achieved my desired results, I recognize that continuous iteration will be necessary. If I had delayed this re-evaluation, I might have wasted more time on unfocused ideas. Moving forward, I will stay vigilant in reassessing my approach to ensure that I stay on track.
Learning
This experience taught me the importance of adaptability and the value of revisiting initial assumptions. Redefining my HMW statement showed me that taking a step back to evaluate my direction is crucial for overcoming creative blocks. I learned that flexibility and iteration are essential in the design process, particularly when dealing with complex problems. In the future, I will reassess my approach earlier and seek feedback sooner to avoid getting stuck. Additionally, I recognize the value of structured tools like Top5 and Insight Statement, and I will continue using them while exploring new ones to further refine my design process.
