Fold & Snap

My Work Showcase

The project this time is to fold 50 times and choose three of my favorites. In the process of folding paper 50 times, I felt that each fold, even though the previous steps were the same, would give a different shape with each slight change. Before paper folding, I would imagine folding in my mind and drawing the steps on paper. Still, the folds are often different from the imagination, which made me understand the importance of practice.

Pick three of my favorite folds

Cross

This is my favorite one of the 50 works named "Cross.” The name is because there are many intersections in this fold. Although there are many intersections, it does not feel cluttered, which makes me feel indifferent, orderly beauty. The light is coming from the upper left corner, and the shadows formed by the three folded inward corners in the middle are thin, straight, and black due to the light, and the shadows created by the backlight on the right side, like a jagged shape.

STAR

This is my second favorite work called “Star.” Four tiny and four large horns make up the shape of the star, and the two faces of each horn create a sharp contrast of light and dark. This effect is a pleasant surprise. In fact, it is another work of my origami. It just changed the way of folding inward and outward so that the paper is folded into another shape. This is my work. Did not expect. I especially like this kind of unimaginable thing.

Day and Night

This is my third favorite fold, called “Day and Night,” because this work is on the brighter left side; there will still be shadows because of the folds. There will still be a lighter side on the darker right side because of the shadows. Like day and night, things will have dark shadows during the day because of the sun, and the moon will appear extra bright at night because it is too dark.

This is my first choice, and unlike the second and third, I like it because of its stretchability and symmetrical beauty, which I think is attractive. Because of the folding, it stretches like a spring and can even be restored to its original shape by pinching the upper and lower ends of it with your hands and pressing it down a little after releasing it.
