Feelings

During this process, I experienced a mixture of emotions. At the start, I felt pressure due to the deadline for the poster submission. However, once I began filling in the content for the important screens, I felt a sense of relief because it allowed me to finally see the app's visual identity coming together. I was excited to craft the poster and showcase the app’s potential, but there was also some anxiety about whether the app was at a stage where I could effectively present it.

As I worked on the prototype, there was a period of satisfaction because the work progressed faster than expected, thanks to the materials I had pre-prepared. However, discovering the issues with the app flow sparked some frustration, as I had thought the design was nearly complete. Nonetheless, fixing these issues provided a sense of accomplishment, as I knew the app was improving with each iteration.

Findings

The experience of preparing for the poster submission highlighted several key findings. First, early preparation was essential in making the process more efficient. Because I had already collected all the necessary materials, I was able to focus on design and content integration rather than scrambling to find resources.

The issues with the app flow underscored the importance of continuous testing and iteration. Even though I had previously worked on the app flow, it wasn’t until I began populating the prototype with real content that I identified areas that needed improvement. This taught me that visualising the app in its more complete form is crucial for catching user experience issues that might not be obvious during the initial wireframing phase.

Future

Looking ahead, I plan to use these insights to streamline my design process in future projects. For example, I will make sure to prepare materials well in advance to ensure I can focus on creative work when deadlines approach. I also intend to schedule more frequent testing throughout the design process, particularly when transitioning from wireframes to a more polished prototype. This will help me catch flow issues early on and avoid delays caused by last-minute fixes.

Facts

This week, my primary focus was on creating a poster for submission, which required me to work on the hero shot of my app. At this stage, the app was still in its framework phase, so I had to prioritize populating key screens with content that would be showcased on the poster.

Once the content was filled in, I shifted to planning the poster layout and deciding which aspects of the app I wanted to highlight. After completing the poster design, I turned my attention to the prototype. This involved adding elements such as images, animations, typography, and motion effects. I completed these tasks relatively quickly, largely because I had already gathered all the necessary materials the previous week. This preparation allowed me to work more efficiently.

While filling in the content for the prototype, I noticed some issues with the app flow. I took this opportunity to revisit and refine the flow, ensuring that the user experience was more coherent and intuitive. These changes improved the overall functionality of the app.
